For our spring service project we are once again partnering with the women’s ministry at La Iglesia Gran Comision in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. They have several groups of women that serve a specific group or cause on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Stitches of Faith is a women’s group that gets together and sews quilts and more to bless people with. They pray as they sew and often give the quilts to the sick or suffering and let them know they have been praying for them as they stitched it.
Project Hello Baby is a women’s group that visits a specific hospital in San Pedro Sula weekly. They visit the maternity unit that is dedicated to serving adolescent moms. The often see girls as young as 12 in the unit just hours after giving birth and they don’t get to stay long. The girls are generally in the hospital for less than 12 hours after giving birth. When the Hello Baby ladies come they bring a bag filled with toiletries for mom and baby as well as an outfit for the baby. As they distribute the bags they get to talk with the women and share the gospel with them.
In the last year or so the Stitches of Faith group and the Project Hello Baby group have partnered together. Stitches of Faith is now sewing diaper bags for Project Hello Baby to give to the mother’s in the maternity unit. Prior to this they were adding the toiletries and baby outfit to a gift bag for the mothers. The diaper bags are such a blessing to the moms and they use water resistant material that is easy to wipe clean. That fabric is expensive so this year we have the opportunity to partner with them by sponsoring diaper bags. The material for each bag costs $3-$4. Would you join us in sponsoring 3 diaper bags for $10? Project Hello Baby also purchases a bale of gently used baby clothes for $100/bale. Every $10 donation will be used to purchase materials for 3 diaper bags or 1/10th of a bale of clothes.
